So far, I have introduced in the series "How to take good case photos of beauty care". However, there may be cases where "cameras and equipment are not available" or "it is difficult to match the level of each staff member when shooting with a camera because there are no specialized staff". What should I do in such a case?
This time, for those who are new to cameras, we will tell you the camera equipment that you should prepare first, and the points when shooting with a smartphone when you can not prepare the camera and equipment.
Table of contents
What kind of camera is required to take a case photo is "the best camera and basic camera settings for taking a case photo" , and for the equipment, "ideal environment for taking a case photo". I told you in "Equipment" . In addition, we introduce the equipment that is good for taking higher- grade case photos in "Points for taking higher- grade case photos" .
However, if it is difficult to get all the equipment at once, it is a good idea to have the minimum necessary equipment and get used to shooting.
The minimum required items are (1) tripod and pan head, (2) clip-on strobe, (3) SD card, (4) camera, and (5) zoom lens.
A tripod is essential for fixing the camera. The pan head is a device for fixing the camera to a tripod.
The clip-on strobe is necessary to get the skin color as it looks, regardless of the lighting such as fluorescent lights, and the SD card is indispensable for saving the photos taken and transferring the data to the personal computer.
It would also be nice to have a zoom lens for a cleaner case photo shoot. Many single-focus (non-zoomable) lenses are wide-angle lenses, and if you get too close to the subject, the contour of the face will change, so it is better to take a picture with a zoom lens to some extent to get a better case photo.

For a cleaner case photo shoot
Many single-focus (non-zoomable) lenses are wide-angle lenses, and if you get too close to the subject, the contour of your face will change. If you take a picture with a zoom to some extent, you can take a beautiful case picture.
For the strobe, we recommend the "clip-on strobe" that can be attached to the camera. Just attach it to the camera and anyone can use it without any difficult operations or settings.
What you should be careful about is the position of the strobe. If you point it at the subject directly in front of you, the subject will be overexposed with too much light (the gradation of bright areas will be lost and it will become pure white). Therefore, if you tilt the strobe slightly backward to direct the light upward and create a light source that shines down from the ceiling, you can capture the texture of the skin more accurately.
With a reflector (shown on the right), you can prevent the ceiling lighting from casting shadows on your face or appearing bluish due to the effects of fluorescent lights. Therefore, if possible, we would like to have all the equipment, but you can substitute white cardboard or cloth without having to purchase it.
If you suddenly need a reflector, or if you want to use it from time to time and it's a waste to buy it, you can substitute it with the following.
|What to prepare||White cardboard, white cardboard, or cardboard with white paper such as copy paper|
|size|| About 25 x 45 cm x 1 |
About 40 x 55 cm x 2
For the reflex version, it is best to have the subject hold the reflex version and then set it so that the subject is sandwiched between them.
The size of the reflector that the subject should bring is about 25 x 45 cm. The reflector version, which is set so as to sandwich the subject, is set by attaching white cardboard or cardboard (about 40 x 55 cm) to a light stand (about 2000 to 3000 yen) to fix the light with curing tape.
If it is difficult to prepare the light stand and you cannot install a reflector to sandwich the subject, you can prevent unnecessary shadows from being reflected just by having the subject hold the reflector.
Since recent smartphones have high performance, it is possible to take case photos with smartphones, but there are some points to keep in mind in order to take more beautiful case photos.
Be sure to use a tripod to prevent camera shake and to always take case photos with the same settings.
Smartphones are compact and easy to shoot with one touch, but they have the disadvantage of being easily shaken.
In addition, the camera automatically adjusts all settings such as brightness on the smartphone. The higher the performance, the more the photo settings may change in response to subtle changes in light.
When shooting with a tripod, the face height and brightness settings are always constant. On the other hand, if you do not use a tripod, you may end up with a camera shake image, or the subject may shift up, down, left, or right as if you were the photographer, resulting in an inaccurate picture.
|For iPhone|| Select "Camera" from "Settings" and tap |
Turn on "Grid" (default is "Off")
For ANDROID smartphones, the settings differ depending on the manufacturer and model. Search for "grid display" in the manual of your model and set it.
Abbreviation for "High Dynamic Range". When you release the shutter, it automatically combines three photos taken with the minimum, maximum, and intermediate exposures into one photo. By synthesizing multiple photos with different brightness (exposure), it adjusts to natural brightness even when shooting against the sun or in dark places.
|For iPhone||Launch the camera and tap "HDR" at the top of the screen Tap "On" (default setting is "Automatic")|
For ANDROID smartphones, the settings differ depending on the manufacturer and model. Search for "HDR" in the manual for your model and set it.
The higher the number of pixels, such as "5 million pixels" and "8 million pixels", the higher the resolution (fineness of the image) and the more beautiful the picture can be taken. In the case of iPhone, the number of pixels is automatically determined, but depending on the smartphone model, the number of pixels of the camera can be changed by yourself.
Before shooting, check if the number of pixels can be changed with the model to be shot, and if so, set the maximum number of pixels before shooting.
The higher the number of pixels, the heavier the photo data. Make sure to back up the captured data frequently while checking the storage capacity of your smartphone.
The digital zoom function of the smartphone is convenient, but the larger the image, the lower the image quality. Even if you don't understand it on the small screen of your smartphone, it may mean that the image is too rough to use when you try to use a part of the face up later.
The ideal zoom guide is "3 to 5 times". Higher magnifications result in lower resolution and coarser images. It is related to the reliability of the clinic, so I would like to be careful.
Recently, the number of smartphones equipped with a wide-angle lens is increasing. A wide-angle lens has the characteristic that it has a wide range of images, the one in the foreground is larger, and the one in the distance is smaller. For this reason, the face line will be distorted if you get too close to the subject in order to capture only the face part in a large size.
Do not get too close to the subject and try to zoom in at a distance of about 1 meter.
For the first time, you may feel reluctant to take a case photo with a single-lens reflex camera, or it may take some time, but taking a lot is the key to improving your photography.
The settings will change depending on the shooting environment and camera model, so it's a good idea to have the minimum necessary equipment and manage the number to get a feel for it. By shooting multiple times, you should be able to find out the best settings for your camera, such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity.
In addition, even case photos using a smartphone can be taken beautifully by grasping the points. Considering taking pictures during busy treatments, you may consider taking pictures with your smartphone until you have all the equipment.
